The Hacienda
The richness of colonial Mexican history dates back to the time of the early Spanish settlers where the core of life revolved around the hacienda. In a rugged land, full of natural resources, the hacienda was a self sustaining group of people living and working together for the mutual benefit of the group. The hacienda had to provide food, clothing and all the household goods needed by the people to make if operate and function. Out of these haciendas, artisans and craftsmen perfected their individual trades making items like handcrafted saddles and leather goods to help work the land. Another area of craftsmanship came in the form of the furniture made for the hacienda.
The furniture of the Hacienda
This furniture is not only practical and functional, but heavy in construction and beautiful in the passion of the individual craftsman creating the pieces. The patron or the head of the hacienda over saw a large number of people living and working in this group, demanding comfort, style and elegance in his home. Through the years, the gifted artisans of Mexico rose to the challenge and created the items needed by the patron in the hacienda, including a style of furniture that is truly unique in the world through their passion of art and architectural design.
